Indiana University Bloomington Launches GoalQuest Retention
Technology to Reach Out to At-Risk Students

Web-Based Program Provides Cost-Effective Tools to Engage Students at Risk of Attrition

| New York, New York | October 7, 2004 |

Indiana’s largest public university has partnered with GoalQuest to launch a Web-based retention and communications program, custom-written and designed to reach out to at-risk freshmen through the privacy of their personal computers.

The program, called Iu4u: Formula for Freshman Success, helps students transition to social and academic life at IU Bloomington by covering topics such as getting along with roommates, avoiding risk behavior, balancing work and study and improving time management skills. Future programs will target sophomores and juniors and will consider such issues as off-campus living and commuting, balancing school and job responsibilities, selecting a major and exploring a career.

Source of Strategic Intelligence
Iu4u utilizes GoalQuest’s FYRe™ technology, which monitors student participation and allows them to ask questions and provide feedback. The highly customizable tool also gives administrators the ability to gauge a student’s retention probability through intelligence reports and real-time, instant survey and assessment modules.

An integrated reporting center, available to Indiana University 24 hours a day, generates automated intelligence alerts that notify advisors about deficient program engagement or students who answer survey questions negatively. Indiana also uses GoalQuest’s Live Alerts feature to consistently update students on events and deadlines in real-time.

Allows Students to Reach Out in Privacy
“GoalQuest often hears that students leave campus because they were too embarrassed to discuss their concerns with an advisor or administrator,” says CEO Peter Kraft. “Indiana University is asking smart questions while arming their retention team with valuable intelligence and offering support to freshmen.”

First-year experience courses and freshman seminars do not typically deal with students’ personal issues. This is one of the primary reasons why more than 50 colleges and universities use GoalQuest FYRe™ programs to reinforce such courses and to address more personal matters, aiding students who respond to certain kinds of content better when it is delivered anonymously through the Web.

“Large universities are a tough transition for some freshmen,” said Interim Vice Chancellor for Academic Support and Diversity Edwardo Rhodes. “We want to maintain the kind of relationship we promised when we were recruiting our students and continue to engage them on all levels.”

Burden-Free Technology Solution
“We understand that the last thing a large university like IU needs are new technology projects that compete against other important initiatives,” said Kraft. “GoalQuest’s technology is completely turn-key, and the content is custom created to fit each school’s particular mission.”
